Chris Brown Sentenced

Chris Brown was sentenced today for the February 8th incident where he hit, choked, and threatened to kill his girlfriend Rihanna on the night of the Grammy Awards. Brown will be receiving five years of probation, 180 days of community service, and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. In addition, the judge extended a no contact order through 2014, over the objections of both Rihanna and Brown.

Chris Brown SentencedIt’s nice to finally see an end to this long sad tumultuous story. Brown has previously discussed having grown up in an atmosphere of domestic abuse, and seems cognizant of his role in perpetuating the cycle of abuse. He talked about growing up with an abusive stepfather on Tyra Banks’ talk show in 2007, and has said regarding this latest incident that he wants to “take responsibility for my mistake.”

Domestic violence affects all populations, regardless of gender, race, or income level. One in three African American women will experience abuse in their lifetime, and 28% of the women who die from domestic violence are African American.

This is a serious problem, and public reaction to Chris Brown’s situation has not been, shall we say, very encouraging. Comments on the E! Online story about Brown’s sentencing range from “I STILL LUV U” to “she provoked him no doubt.” Hopefully part of Chris Brown’s community service will include some PSA spots about domestic violence, and not just a long stint picking up trash along the interstate.

Since the beginning of the month honestly, there have been TONS of rumors circulating about LisaRaye McCoy-Misick and her husband, Dr. Michael Misick, the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Apparently he’s had alleged rape allegations, “relations” with 106 & Park’s Rocsi, NOW there are rumors about a fight on Wednesday, which resulted in both of them being treated for “bite marks”.

The above video is LisaRaye’s reaction to the separation.

Minor League Brawl: 17 Ejected

I must have missed the memo. Noone told me that it’s athlete brawl week. First, the lovely Candace Parker and the ladies of the Detroit Shocks & LA Sparks duke it out. Now, 17 minor league players from affiliate teams of the Cincinnati Reds (Dayton) and Chicago Cubs (Peoria), brawl at a minor league game.

ESPN.com has been busy this week giving the updates. According to Espn, 15 players and both team managers were given the boot and even a fan was sent to the hospital. I wonder if he will get offered 25K like Steve Bartman… but I digress. The brawl lasted about 8 – 10 minutes and cleared the entire bench. (those are my fav fights, it gets everyone engaged.. even the waterboys).

Unlike with the WNBA game, league President George Spelius, said the game must go on! The ejections were reversed and the game continued with a Dayton win. The fan involved was hit by a loose ball thrown from one player towards the other dugout.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Enough with the background, here’s the play-by-play.”After a Peoria player was hit in the top of the first, Castillo hit two batters in the bottom half — one in the head. The second hit batsmen by Castillo, Angel Cabrerra, made an aggressive slide into second to break up a double play. Castillo followed that by throwing his next pitch up-and-in to the next Dayton batter, prompting Dayton manager Donnie Scott to complain to the home plate umpire. Interim Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez — filling in for Ryne Sanberg — came onto the field to join the discussion.

The two managers began arguing, and when Martinez pushed Scott, the benches emptied.

Dayton shortstop Zack Cozart had to leave the game after being hit in the head with a pitch and Peoria second baseman Gian Guzman went out with a broken left leg, the Dayton Daily News reported.

During an hour-long delay, the teams protested the ejections by phone to league president George Spelius, saying they didn’t want pitchers playing in the outfield to complete the game.

Spelius will take appropriate action once video footage of the game has been reviewed, Dayton general manager Gary Mayse said in a statement.”

Steve Bartman Offered 25K.. I need to change professions!

According to the Chicago Sun Times, ” A sports collectors Web site and a memorabilia convention are offering $25,000 for a single autograph to Steve Bartman — the infamous Cubs fan known for knocking a foul ball away from Moises Alou during game 6 of the Cubs’ National League Championship Series game against the Florida Marlins.

According to the Web site Nsccshow.com “All he has to do is show up on Thursday July 31, 2008 at 1:00 PM, prove that he is the Steve Bartman pictured in this photo, sign the photo and the $25,000 is his.”

If he agrees, the site states that the autograph will be auctioned and the proceeds will be donated to a local charity.”

Steve Bartman

Steve Bartman

I remember it like it was yesterday, Mark Prior was pitching a three-hit shutout for the Chicago Cubs in the eighth inning. For the Marlins, Luis Castillo was batting, with one out and Juan Pierre standing on second base. The Chicago Cubs were leading the game 3-0, leading the series three games to two, and were five outs away from reaching the World Seriesfor the first time since 1945and attempting to win it for the first time since 1908.

Bartman was sitting in the front row along the left field corner wall behind the bullpen when a pop foul off the bat of Castillo drifted toward his seat. Cubs left fielder Moises Alou ran over to attempt a catch, reaching up into the seating area, but Bartman, who was watching the ball and not the fielder (like a few other fans next to him), got to the ball first and appeared to knock it away from Alou. Alou slammed his glove down in frustration and was seen shouting in Bartman’s direction. The Cubs argued for an interference call, but umpire Mike Everitt ruled that there was no fan interference.

After it happened, Bartman had to be led away from the park under escort for his own safety, as Cubs fans shouted profanities towards him and others threw debris onto the field and towards the exit tunnel from the field. News footage of the game showed him surrounded by security as passersby pelted him with drinks and other debris.

NOW, he’s being offered $25,000. Is it worth it? Will Cubs fans be anxiously waiting for him to show up? Am I giving people ideas that they hadn’t thought of before? Steve is kinda like the groundhog to me right now.. will get to take a peek on July 31st?? Only time will tell!!

Salmonella taking over the jalapenos?!?!

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Investigators had a “significant break” in tracking the salmonella outbreak when they found the bacteria on a jalapeño pepper imported from Mexico at a Texas food supplier, the Food and Drug Administration announced Monday.

The FDA has discouraged all consumers from eating raw jalapeño peppers.

The FDA has discouraged all consumers from eating raw jalapeño peppers. The FDA also warned consumers not to eat fresh jalapeños and products made with fresh jalapeños. Read the full story.

Not this jalapeños… anything but my jalapeños. Take my tomatoes and my chicken, but not my jalapeños!!

The best way I could find to make light of this tragedy is this HILARIOUS Katt Williams clip on death by salmonella!

The New Yorker Magazine Cover is OFFENSIVE to Barack Obama

Is it just me, or is this just too far? I know that this is supposed to be a joke, but I do not find it funny at all! This is the new cover of The New Yorker Magazine for July 21, 2008. I am not digging it, it is rather offensive and juvenile, just like the republican right…all wrong!

Caring For Your Flag

Extreme Weather Conditions

Strong winds and rain can cause damage to flags of many fabrics. Even all-weather flags will wear faster in these conditions. It’s best to take flags down in bad weather. It’s also important to check your flag regularly for damage. Larger flags (10ft x 15ft and up) need to be checked for wear at least twice a month. Many people will buy two flags and rotate them frequently. That way one flag can be repaired and cleaned while the other is displayed.

Caring for your Flag

  • Do not store a damp flag. It can get moldy. Allow it to dry and store it in a moisture-proof container.
  • If your flag is dirty, you can hand wash it in cold water with mild detergent and allow it to air dry. You can also take it to the dry cleaners. Washing your flag regularly will increase its lifespan.
  • You can do minor repairs to your flag as long as they are not noticeable and it is still a fitting emblem. Flags in bad condition should be retired and replaced.
  • Position your flagpole in a clear area where your flag won’t whip against rough services, branches or anything it can snag on.
  • Keep your flagpole clean and in good repair. Rust can stain and corrode your flag and rough edges can tear it.

In the midst of my boredom tonight, I took some time out to Google Mr. Ryan Sheckler. There’s been a lot of talk on the blog about Ryan and his MTV show, Life of Ryan, so I wanted to dig deeper. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Ryan is a shoe designer for Etnies, a leading skateboard shoe designer.
